Nilu Phule is hailed as one of the legends of Marathi cinema. Born in 1930, Phule started his professional acting career with a Marathi folk play ‘Katha Aklechya Kandyachi’. The actor made his big screen debut in 1968 with ‘Ek Gaav Baara Bhangadi’.
A biopic based on the life of Marathi cinema’s celebrated actor Nilu Phule is in the works. We have learnt that actor-director Prasad Oak will be helming the Marathi-Hindi bilingual. The official rights for the project have been acquired from Phule’s daughter, actress Gargi Phule-Thatte, by a well-known production house.
Gargi Phule, the Marathi TV-theatre actress and the daughter of late actor Nilu Phule, joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday. Gargi was inducted into the party at the NCP headquarters in Mumbai in the presence of state party president Jayant Patil, Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar and former state minister Sunil Tatkare among others. Speaking at the event, Gargi shared that she wanted to work with Sharad Pawar for a long time and when she was asked, she immediately accepted the invitation.
Be it Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh or the latest, Sardar Udham, sports personalities and freedom fighters have always been filmmakers’ favourite when it comes to making a biopic. But now, there is a biopic that is being made on an actor. Kumar Taurani is developing a biopic on Marathi actor Nilu Phule. Kumar Taurani says, “We have acquired the rights to develop a biopic on Nilu Phule from his daughter Gargi Nilkant Phule, and are looking to commence work on the project this year itself.” The cast of the movie is under wraps at the moment.
