With Hindi Diwas celebrated on 14th September, what better way to honour the richness of the Hindi language than by immersing in the timeless magic of classic Bollywood cinema. Many Hindi classics are deeply inspired by literary works, with rich narratives adapted from novels or stories, and their iconic dialogues have transcended time, becoming an integral part of India’s cultural lexicon. These films not only reflect the era they were made in but also continue to inspire generations with their timeless wisdom and evocative language.

 

In her five decades of career, Waheeda Rehman has been part of many hit films such as Neel Kamal, Bees Saal Baad, Khamoshi, Pyaasa, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Guide, CID, and Chaudvin Ka Chand. However, the veteran actor always spoke her mind, and didn’t adhere to every demand kept in front of her. In fact, it was considered customary to change your name in Hindi cinema at the time, but the veteran actor refused to do so. During a recent conversation at Jaipur Literature Festival, she revealed that she was a stubborn newcomer in Bollywood when she made her debut with the 1956 film CID.

Ajay had never asked us for a favour but wanted to know if there was any way we could introduce him to Dev Anand. We not only met him but even joined him for dinner.
