TAROT is a supernatural horror movie. Led by Haley, an amateur astrologist, seven college students celebrate a birthday one weekend by renting a mansion in the Catskills. On their last night, Haley reads their horoscopes using a strange deck of Tarot cards they found in the basement. Turning over the cards assigns a Tarot character to each student. Back at campus the next night, supernatural versions of the Tarot characters stalk and try to kill the students. A Tarot expert urges the students to destroy the Tarot cards. Of course, that proves to be easier said than done.

Sporting the tagline “Your Fate is in the Cards”, the supernatural feature “Tarot” gives you a pretty good idea of what you’re in for. The small budget horror film released earlier this year and had a decent showing at the box office, earning nearly $50 million on an $8 million budget. But it wasn’t well received by fellow critics. Turns out there are some pretty noticeable reasons why.

The network, CGV Korea, first released the Tarot movie on June 14, 2024. The 90-minute film featured the first three episodes’ stories. It garnered appreciation from viewers and critics. Furthermore, the first short story, titled Santa’s Visit/Do You Believe in Santa?, bagged the nominations at the Cannes International Series Festival 2024. It starred actress Cho Yeo-Jeong from the Oscar-winning film, Parasite.
